Art Supply Warehouse in Westminster, California, is one of those places that is just forever lodged in my memory. My dad was an artist, and so is my mom (who now runs Moonstone Mudworks). So, I remember going there with my mom when I was a kid, and it’s a place my dad was always excited about.
A couple years ago, I finally made my way back to Long Beach, CA after a long time away. Heading to Art Supply Warehouse was an important stop on my itinerary. I know I picked up some fountain pens and other goodies during that trip. When I wanted to get some new painting supplies this March, I found my way to their website and ended up placing two orders.
Today, I thought I’d share my recent haul. Note: this is not a sponsored post at all. I just really love Art Supply Warehouse.
My main priority for this order was to get some larger panels and a dedicated varnish brush. I had been using an old, cheap bristle brush for varnishing, and it just shed little hairs too much. I splurged on a nice 55mm Gamvar Varnish brush. There were some other brushes on closeout, so I also grabbed a Princeton Velvet touch Angular Shader and size 6 CJAS Fitch Scrubber.
Then, I got a mix of Gessobord and Aquabord in various sizes. All the panels I ordered are 1/8” thick - these are just easier to store and ship, so I haven’t branched out to the cradled versions. I’m eager to start working a bit bigger and use my new 16”x16” Gessobord!
Finally, I got some Winsor & Newton Artisan Water Mixable Linseed Oil and Thinner (and have some more varnish on back-order). I started to run low on these, so I figured it was a good time to restock.
All in all, I’m super happy with this art haul. I usually only splurge on new art supplies a couple times a year, so it’s always exciting when the order arrives.
What sorts of items are you always excited to stock up on? Or, do you have a favorite local art supply shop? I’d love to hear from you!
